Folders, and putting pages inside pages
Make a folder, nest pages, and understand the one rule about what can go where.
There are two kinds of thing in the sidebar: folders and pages. Folders only organise; pages hold writing and can also hold other pages.
Press New folder at the top of the page list.
It is beside the word PAGES, next to New page.
Give the folder a name.
Add things inside it with the buttons on the folder's row.
New folder inside and New page inside appear when you point at the row. On a phone or tablet they are always shown.
There is exactly one rule about what can contain what, and it is worth knowing because it is the only arrangement the app will refuse:

To make a folder easier to spot, open it and use the ⋮ menu at the top right of the page. Pick one of 14 colours, then an icon, or type an emoji instead. Icon only colours just the icon; Icon and row also tints the folder's row in the page list.
Open and close a folder with the arrow beside it. Your account remembers which folders you left open, so the page list looks the same on every device you sign in on. Collapse all, beside the word PAGES, closes every folder at once, and becomes Expand all to open them again.
On a long list, colour is faster to scan than names. Folders keep their colour, icon and emoji in the iOS app too.
